      Six Calvin players named to All-MIAA women's soccer team

     GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The All-MIAA women's soccer teams have been
    announced and six Calvin players have been so honored. Named to the
    All-MIAA first team from Calvin are senior April Phelps, sophomore
    Tricia Dyk and freshman Dana Haan. Named to the All-MIAA second team
    from Calvin are juniors Tara Bergsma and Stephanie Fritz and sophomore
    Sarah Wind.

     Phelps and Dyk are receiving all-MIAA first team accolades for the
    second straight year while Haan is receiving first team All-MIAA honors
    for the first team. A Holland native and a graduate of Holland
    Christian High School, Phelps split time between marking back and
    midfield this fall as she tallied one goal and two assists. Dyk is
    another Lakeshore native as she is from Grand Haven and a graduate of
    Western Michigan Christian High School. A forward, Dyk led Calvin in
    scoring for the second consecutive year as she scored 12 goals along
    with eight assists for 32 points. In conference play, she came up with
    11 goals, seven assists and 29 points to rank third in the MIAA in goals
    and points and eighth in assists. Of her 12 goals this year, four were
    game-winners. She also received MIAA Player of the Week accolades once
    during the season.

     A freshman forward, Haan is from Lynden, Washington and is a graduate
    of Lynden Christian High School. During the year, Haan collected nine
    goals and five assists to rank second on the Calvin team in scoring with
    23 points. All nine of her goals came in conference play as she
    finished sixth in the MIAA in goals scored. Four of her goals this year
    were game-winners including a dramatic goal in the closing minute of
    play in a 2-1 victory at Kalamazoo that marked Calvin's first victory
    over the Hornets since 1997. During the year, Haan received MIAA Player
    of the Week honors once.

     Bergsma is making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA second
    team while Fritz and Wind are being so honored for the first time.
    Bergsma is from Walker and is a graduate of Calvin Christian High
    School. During the year, she split time between midfield and a forward
    position, scoring three goals along with three assists for nine points.
    Fritz recently completed her third year as a starter in Calvin's
    defensive backfield. A native of Middleton, Wisconsin and a graduate of
    Middleton High School, Fritz was the quarterback of Calvin's defense
    this fall from her sweeper position. She also scored one goal during
    the year which proved to be a game-winner in a 3-1 victory at St.
    Mary's. Wind also came up with some timely scoring this year as she
    popped in a pair of game-winning goals including a goal with less than
    two minutes left in regulation that allowed Calvin to edge Olivet 5-4 in
    a late-season encounter. A midfielder from Bellflower, California and a
    graduate of Valley Christian High School, Wind collected three goals and
    three assists for nine points this year.

     Senior Stephanie Post, junior Larissa Onderlinde and sophomore Leah
    VanderPloeg also received honorable mention recognition from the MIAA
    coaches. A midfielder, Post is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of
    Grand Rapids Christian High School. She finished with two goals and two
    assists for a total of six points. Onderlinde is a forward from
    Kalamazoo and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School. She
    finished with six goals and seven assists for 19 points to rank third on
    the Calvin scoring list. VanderPloeg hails from Hudsonville and is a
    graduate of Unity Christian High School. She stepped into Calvin's
    starting spot in goal this fall and collected a Calvin single-season
    record 152 saves while also posting five shutout victories and a
    goals-against-average of 1.68.
     Calvin finished the year with a 11-7 overall record and a second place
    MIAA finish as the Knights were 10-4 in conference play. With its 11
    victories, Calvin reached the double-digit plateau in
    victories for the 12th consecutive year. In 13 years of varsity play,
    Calvin has never had a losing season and has an overall won-loss record
    of 172-59-5 for a winning percentage of .739.
