The Kenneth and Grace Vos Endowment for Excellence in Mathematics and Statistics provides flexibility to pursue a range of activities that will encourage and promote creative and innovative education in mathematics and statistics.
History
In 2015, Dr. Kenneth and Grace Vos established this endowment to honor their commitment to Calvin University and their interest in supporting a thriving community in mathematics and statistics.
Kenneth Vos taught at the high school, college and graduate levels for over 45 years. He trained future elementary, middle school and high school teachers in mathematics pedagogy. Grace Vos also taught middle school, high school, college and graduate students for over 40 years. She taught English and speech at the middle school and high school levels. In addition, Grace equipped future teachers at the undergraduate and graduate level for teaching English and Language Arts.
Ken and Grace Vos are committed to having higher education faculty continue their pursuit of excellence in teaching -- specifically in the Mathematics and Statistics Department. Their desire is to provide opportunities for faculty to pursue excellence by critically studying and experiencing innovative methods of developing curriculum, enhancing their instructional methods and improving their assessment practices.
Mission
The Kenneth and Grace Vos Endowment for Excellence in Mathematics and Statistics provides flexibility to pursue a range of activities that will encourage and promote creative and innovative education in mathematics and statistics. In particular, the Vos Endowment Fund seeks to financially support opportunities for faculty members in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to interact with experts from elsewhere for the purpose of learning about and discussing in detail pertinent topics related to mathematics, statistics, the teaching and learning of these subjects, and their place in a broader cultural context.
