Engaging the visual arts to serve society
Expert facultyThe faculty in our department maintain leadership roles in professional organizations and are quite active in their respective fields of study. Our faculty members regularly publish scholarly books and essays, curate exhibitions and exhibit their art at local, national and international venues.
Great facilitiesThe department of art and art history occupies the entire lower level of the Spoelhof College Center and includes dedicated studio space for for painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, architectural design and drawing, a darkroom photography lab and a woodworking shop. Graphic design/visual communications students enjoy other state-of-the-art facilities including two Mac classrooms and Calvin's Teaching and Learning Digital Studio located in the Hekman Library.
Students who take part in Calvin's art and art history programs have countless opportunities to develop important skills beyond the classroom in on-campus jobs, off-campus internships, student organizations, and much more.
Calvin art students also have the unique opportunity to take part in the Artist Collaborative where you can study art, entrepreneurship and the social impact of art while travelling the world with your peers. Apply today.
