Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Dinner and Show

Aquinas Circle Theatre

$65 per person

Please join us for dinner and a show! We will meet at Aquinas College for dinner in the Lautit Room at 6:00 PM on Wednesday September 11, then attend Circle Theater for one of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The musical is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled and Elvis-inspired Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.

Our meal, catered by Aquinas College, will offer an entree of their popular Signature Chicken, stuffed with chiffonade basil and spinach, onions, and ricotta cheese, served with sun dried tomatoes. The vegetarian option is sweet potato quinoa cakes with caramelized onion and balsamic drizzle. All meals will begin with a fresh garden salad and include side dishes of roasted seasonal vegetables and roasted red potatoes. Beverages included are water, iced tea, and coffee. A dessert of cake concludes your meal.

Mackinac Island-August 6-7

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is a charming vacation spot in Michigan, known for its victorian style homes, fudge, and stunning views of Lake Huron. The first thing you will notice is the quiet. The only interstate in the U.S. to ban cars, M-185, has no honking horns, no exhaust, no road rage. Only the clop-clop-clopping of horse hooves, the Lake Huron waves hitting the lakeshore and the faint clicking of gears changing. We will arrive in Mackinaw City in time for a 5:00 p.m. dinner reservation at Audie's Restaurant on Tuesday, August 6.  We will enjoy a buffet-style dinner of parmesan and panko-crusted whitefish, vegetarian lasagne, chicken cordon bleu, steamed vegetables, roasted yukon gold potatoes w/herbs, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and assorted non-alcoholic drinks.

After dinner, we will travel across the world's longest suspension bridge, the "Mighty Mac" then settle into our Holiday Inn Express on Lake Huron in St. Ignace for a relaxed evening of visiting, getting our feet sandy at the hotel's beach, and enjoying the sunset.

On Wednesday morning, we will enjoy the hotel's complimentary breakfast, check out at 8:00 a.m. and take the 8:30 a.m. ferry across to Mackinac Island where we will be taxied by horse and buggy up the hill to the Governor's Mansion for a tour.  After our tour there, we will be taxied again by horse and buggy over to the Grand Hotel.  We have time there for visiting the shops, walking the grounds and gardens, and enjoying the comfort and the vistas from the rocking chairs of the front porch of the hotel.  At 12:30 p.m., we will be seated for the luncheon buffet in the main dining room of the Grand Hotel, with abundant choices of salads, fruits, vegetables, seafood, cold cuts, desserts, and beverages.

After we have savored a leisurely luncheon, we will enjoy a narrated, horse-drawn carriage tour to see more of the Island and hear some of its history.  After the carriage tour, we will board a ferry back to the mainland for our return trip to Grand Rapids.  We will stop for fast-food dinner options (not included in the cost) in Gaylord on the way back to Grand Rapids.  We will arrive back in Grand Rapids around 10:00 p.m.

Cost is $349 per person (Single supplement adder is $79).
