What makes for a great application essay?
What makes for a great application essay? College essays are a great opportunity to tell your story. Weave into your essay some interesting and unique experiences you've had and explain how those things have impacted your life, your faith and your perspectives.
When do I see how much financial aid I'll get?
When do I see how much financial aid I'll get? Academic Scholarships are awarded at time of admission. Students who are admitted and file a FAFSA receive their Calvin financial aid award packages beginning in December.
What kind of food do the dining halls serve?
What kind of food do the dining halls serve? ALL the kinds. Waffle bars, vegan entrees, sack lunches-to-go, nut-free options, 5-cheese grilled cheese, greens from our community garden and pizza made in our specialty pizza oven.
Are athletic events popular at Calvin?
Are athletic events popular at Calvin? Knights basketball and volleyball games tend to be the most well-attended sports at Calvin. Hockey has a dedicated fanbase as well.
Do I have to be a Calvinist to go to Calvin?
Do I have to be a Calvinist to go to Calvin? No. Calvin College is affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church, but Calvin makes no requirement of denomination or faith commitment for our students. More than half of our students come from outside of the Christian Reformed Church.
What if I don't have a car?
What if I don't have a car? No car? No problem. Our campus is entirely self-contained and walkable, and if you need to get off campus, we have car share rental program.Learn more »
How does your meal plan work?
How does your meal plan work? If it’s your first year at Calvin and you’re living in the residence halls, you can pick 15 or 21 meals per week. Meal plans also come with "bonus bucks" that you can spend at other food service places on campus, like our coffee shop.Learn more »

How does roommate matching work? Students can either pick their roommate ahead of time or go "potluck." We have an incredible system for roommate matching, so don't be suprised if your potluck roommate becomes a life-long friend.
What's there to do on a Friday night?
What's there to do on a Friday night? More times than not, campus will have something going on—a concert, a film or some other student activity. Or, you could always venture downtown and explore the shops and shows of downtown Grand Rapids.
What if I’m struggling with academics?
What if I’m struggling with academics? Calvin’s academics can be tough. Our professors are supportive and available, but we also have awesome support services for students—like free tutoring, academic coaching and a rhetoric center for help with papers.
What kind of jobs are available for students?
What kind of jobs are available for students? Oh-so-many. Many students work on campus, doing everything from serving food in the dining hall to supporting the technology needs of the campus. There are also work-study internships and many jobs for college students in Grand Rapids.
